Playing and having fun.

Playing and having fun.

The last weeks, I’ve been playing in my new Finish Me sketchbook. Just painting, cutting, printing, sewing, with no plan at all. One page led to another, but I must admit, it has been very fun. Here are some of the pages. They are work in progress, I may still add more, put in more stitching etc.

I have done very little quilting lately, so I decided to use some of this weekend to practise. I needed a project, and to do it simly, I just followed DMTV and Linda Kemshall and made my own copy of the Iris-quilt. Now I just binding and some embellishment, and I’ve got myself a new nice bit of colour on the wall.

Thanks for visiting my page.

Two more Journalquilts

Two more Journalquilts

Just a short note to show you my last two Journal-quilts. The first, for July, is inspired by our road-trip this summer, and the pink – blue wild Lupins along the way:

I just love the texture you can get with a bit of stitching, it helps when I am not too pleased with my chose of fabric. Some Clos-ups:

The second, for August, is a map of my surroundings.

Also here, the hand-stitching gives depth to the quilt:

Love Tulip

Love Tulip

Another reveal from Latitudequilts:
When I put out this challenge, I called it maybe trite but when I started working on it, it really ended up as a challenge for me. While I was looking in my sketchbooks, and my heart for ideas, I came across a journal-quilt I made last year. It was worked with spraying through stencils with some tulips. And I really love tulips with their many shapes patterns and colours. And not to forget it’s history. The first tulip in Norway, bloomed in the garden of an old pharmacy here in the center of Bergen more than 400 years ago.
So I had an idea, but how to interpret it. By spraying and stenciling I managed to get a piece of cloth I liked, but I also needed a focus. I went to one of my other great love: Letters, in all it’s sizes and fonts. And how they can be decorative as well as have a meaning. So I stenciled a big L on top of it all and put the rest of the letters for love as a decoration on it. I hand quilted the visible tulips, machine-quilted the background and appliqued a photo-transfer of a tulip from my garden as a finishing touch.

And some close-ups:

Sorry for the delay

Sorry for the delay

It’s been a long time since my last entry, I know. But I have been rather busy. Among the things I have made, are some more Journal quilts, like these:

And I signed up for another year with Ineke Berlyn, this year with a focus on landscape:

Tomorrow we have a new reveal with Latitudequilts, http://latitudequilts.blogspot.no/
with the theme chosen by me: LOVE.
A little teaser from my sketchbook:

Welcome

I love to make things. I like knitting in the evenings, and tending my garden. I love to work with fibres, to colour and shape things. I find great inspiration in older Japanese design, the art of Hiroshige and Hokusai being my favourites. I also dabble a bit with bookmaking, binding my own sketchbooks to play in and fill with my research, as well as making textile books.
